in an artist’s PARADISE…
“A Brush with Nature”…
STARTING from 19th September Elsie will be holding one day outings to Baan Suan Si lapa in Nonthaburi, home and studio of the well-known Thai artist, Wichien Wonsupalak.
This charming oasis is a blend of artist retreat and rural paradise where Wichien and Elsie will be your hosts for the day.
After an informal stroll round the grounds with Wichien, instruction will follow with Elsie in her dynamic ‘alla prima’ technique, suitable for oil or acylic painting. Please if you are a beginner you will be welcomed with open arms. Elsie can teach absolutely anyone to enjoy the process of learning to paint and draw.
Beginners can use paint, charcoal or pastel (or whatever they want to try).
Everyone welcome….sketchers, painters and beginners… and those who just want a day OUT of town.
“It is a fantastic space. There’s so much to paint. It’s authentic rustic Thai style and the day is relaxed but well organised. Just to come out and see this place is enough. I’ve taken so many photos. It’s just great to get out of Bangkok, have a chilled out day and still be back to see the kids out of school.” – Lloyd Thomas, workshop participant from Elsie’s first trip
“As an artist I think these workshops are a perfect way to learn . They can see a tree, a flower and a plant with no pollution, in beautiful surroundings and fresh air. As they look closely and paint they are letting nature come inside them. This is like art therapy and whatever painting they produce the experience of being in nature helps them in some way.” – Wichien Wonsupalek
Leaving Attic/Bangkok 8.30am, returning 3pm EACH Monday with all art materials, transport & a simple Thai lunch provided.
Booking is essential so please call Elsie or email to: info@attic-studios.com for details.
Due to popular demand…. 16th, 23rd and 30th October (sundays)
Discover Sculpture with Gavin Fifield”
Master Sculptor Gavin Fifield teaches techniques used to accurately model the human figure. Students are introduced to the idea of composition & techniques in sculptural works & using wax clay will create form, textural finish & capture a likeness using a life model.
“Everyone can learn to create, but each student is different and needs different encouragement and direction. I believe that a good grounding in the traditional principles of structure, form articulation & anatomy is a sound base for sculptural expression, no matter what its style or form.” – Gavin Fifield
Gavin works with many well known and famous artists, helping them create sculptures from their paintings. He then takes their work on through to the moulding and master stages from which limited edition sculptures are then made in bronze, stainless steel, aluminium and bonded stone. He works in studios and factories in the UK, USA, Spain, Thailand, Taiwan and China.
All abilities welcome.
Cost: 9,000 baht per student which includes all the materials you will need.

EVERY Tuesday evening of each week.
Starting on the 20th September.
“Drawing for the Uninitiated”, from 7.00 pm – 9.30pm
Drawing is one of the oldest and most direct forms of communication. It can transcend all cultures and each part of society, yet many of us are in fear of expressing ourselves through this medium.
Like other forms of communication, drawing is a language; it is a way to communicate anything from a child’s view of the world, to a designer’s detailed specifications for a new product. No drawing is a failure as long as the intentions behind it are not greater than the artist’s ability.
The aim of this course is to furnish students with basic techniques and new objectives which will free them from their (imagined) limitation. Students will be expected to unlearn many of their preconceptions about this art form, and learn to each embrace step forward that they make, no matter how small.
Lesson 1- Materials workshop.
Lesson 2- Basic observation (cheats) techniques.
Lesson 3 – Tone workshop
Lesson 4 – Distortion and expressive drawing
Lesson 5- Change of perception – left hand draw/ contour/ negative shapes, etc. (brief intro)
Lesson 6 – Free draw – Students get to use the techniques that students are most comfortable with (old or new).
Each lesson will feature brief instruction and discussion about new approaches; this will be followed by still life studies where students may implement my suggestions or ignore me completely.
Each session will end with a short class led (positive)critique of that day’s work.
Pre booking essential. email info@attic-studios.com
