Gavin Fifield – our resident sculptor – requested the help of Attic in his search for a European Ballet dancer to pose for a few photos as reference for a sculpture he has been commissioned. Heidi took the challenge and went on the hunt.
European Ballet dancer in Bangkok? “No way” you might say. Oh yee of little faith…
Vivienne, an English Ballet dancer kindly volunteered, did the shoot and then dashed to catch a plane to Paris, much appreciated!
Vivienne was found by Stageworks owner, Michelle Chambers – The mother of one of our enthusiastic little students.
Last Tuesday we managed, with brilliant results, to get the broom seller man into the studio for a Bangkok Life sitting. Students took the opportunity to try to capture the chaos and colour of the broom “train” in a variety of styles. Some interested in the madness of feathers and grass and colourful handles. Some interested in the mechanics of the old converted motorbike, and others in Mr. Broom himself and his cool ear-flap hat.
With so much to look at, any point of view was worthwhile.
Yes I am! And it’s good to be back, full of energy and ideas.
It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon and a handful of people are working away in the studio producing some wonderful oil and pastel paintings. Elsie is out at the Golden Mount today, with a group from the studio and the Bangkok Sketchers, a notorious group that wonders the city taking part in something called “En Plein Air” drawing…sounds dodgy to me….
…Of course it isn’t. Plein Air simply means drawing or painting outdoors on location as shown below:

Anybody who has visited or wandered past the studio recently might wonder where Else has gone. The answer, shock, horror, is to a pub in Soi 33, and all day too!
However, don’t be alarmed for her moral welfare, as were you to wander no further into that soi of iniquity than down the steps to the Londoner you would find her in there, up a ladder painting like Leonardo in the Sistene Chapel. Well not quite, but as the saying goes, when in Rome and appropriately she’s painting London murals.
