Here’s what she has to say on the subject of her art & her great ART success story….

“In September 2010 I moved to Bangkok hoping to be able to put together a portfolio of artwork to apply for a Masters course in Forensic Art. As soon as I arrived I began searching for a studio that would provide me with the support that I needed, having never formally studied drawing despite having a degree in Fine Art! Unlike most studios in Bangkok, Attic constantly provides life classes with a number of male and female models and, with a number of different teachers providing a range of approaches to drawing, I soon found myself well challenged. Initially, I struggled with my own barriers, but with constant encouragement from the teachers, including Elsie Evans the owner of Attic, I was soon able to relax, enjoy and create the work needed for my portfolio.”

Ronnie II, Charcoal and Pastel Pencil on Brown Paper, 80cm x 110cm

“The Forensic Art course will require skills in facial reconstruction, eye witness testimonies, age progression, regression etc, and requires a portfolio of works that demonstrate skills in sculpture, life drawing and observational drawing. Through Attic I was also able to take private sculpture classes with Gavin Fifield. Together we worked on a self-portrait piece – sculpting the skull, muscles and finally the facial features, using head x-rays, photos and a mould of my face. This was an invaluable experience.”

Skull Above View, Stage 1, Wax, Life Size

“One of the best things about the studio, I feel, are the diversity of classes available – from sculpture to life drawing, fantastic models from all walks of life are available for students to draw.. Elsie, my most frequent teacher, was willing to adapt the classes I took to the specific requirements of my course and introduced me to new <a href="http://www.attic-studios.com/art-supplies"title="art supplies bangkok" >materials and techniques. She constantly pushed me to achieve more than I thought I was able to, whilst never encroaching on my own development – which was just what I needed.”

“The other special thing about <a href="http://www.attic-studios.com"title="art classes thailand" >Attic Studios is that everyone is welcome. Becoming a member of the studio doesn’t just mean that you have access to materials and space but you become part of the Attic ‘family’. Everybody – artists, models and teachers alike – muck in where help is needed and everyone is always ready to give some friendly advice. Each month, the studio puts on an exhibition of works and throws an ‘opening’ party where people get together to reconnect, appreciate art and have fun. New artwork is always welcome at the studio, no matter what your shape and size, and all students/members are encouraged to exhibit their work.”

Amy with Carl, another Attic studio member

“Also through Elise, I had the opportunity to support a group of business people on a team building exercise to produce educational art work at an orphanage for children with special needs, which was great fun.”

Amy working with Elsie at Camillian

“During my time at Attic, I’ve developed considerably as an artist, both in confidence and techniques. I’ve become part of a dynamic community and I am pleased to say, that I have received an unconditional offer from the University of Dundee to study MSc Forensic Art! Without the facilities, classes and encouragement provided by the Attic ‘team’ I doubt that I would have been able to prepare my portfolio in such a short period of time.”

Students started with building the human skull to understand it’s bone structure and how it dictates the shape of our heads and faces. After completing the skull, they began to add muscle in order to create features.
