Earlier this week, the subject of the day was “Monet”… & in terms of following the great master’s style, the kids were ON IT!

Here we are on this lovely Saturday morning, with little students busily creating Dali like “dream paintings” with lovely Miss Lala (too cool, dreams are way hard to create but they’re ON it & doing great)… but just TO add to our  lovely morning, Lala kicked off by showing us THIS… SO we’re sharing: For anyone who might feel a spot of artistic energy coming on ….. ‘BE’ Jackson Pollock AND have a bash @ this!

And with Mr. Hamburger’s fine example of a classic STILL LIFE all set up & ready to go… & with him taking the lead, this morning’s students were ON IT!

And for the rest of the studio members  who were here this morning … GREAT creatively also.

Ranging from new little person student Sonia (aged 6) – who did an AMAZING drawing of the skulls straight up (& darn it, missed snapping that one before proud mum legged it) but we also loved her choice of  flowers as well, just ‘lovely’….

To Jorge: an extremely talented & greatly individual teenager (and well cool, as well!) on the blue colour variations….

To Natalie: who’s here each morning at the crack of dawn & working really hard; also doing marvellously….

To one of our newest studio members, Shivani: (who just started yesterday) getting right down to business with an excellent first attempt of POTS…(but not urns, btw!)

So very NICE WORK EVERYONE and see you all again tomorrow, with an additional crowd of little summer workshop peoples PLUS Mr. G & the sculpture crew (nice) AND we’re looking forward to squishing them all in together, here at the studiofor another day of fun. YEAH!

As Pollock once said : “A painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through” ….AND we couldn’t agree with him more!

Giving these little students a rare chance to ‘feel’ what Jackson Pollock must have felt  (well, what he felt most of the time!)…with THIS energy and creativity coming through each of them (aka, these little Pollack protégés!) their efforts & delight really SHONE through.

AND it’s HUGE!!! … and currently hanging from the rafters to almost the floor, in the studio… so what we’ll do with it at this point I’m not quite sure, unless I’m allowed to call up Charles Saatchi RIGHT now and get him to make us an offer!

Happy Friday EVERYONE & we’re just delighted that we all got a true sense of Pollock’s spirit coming through the studio today … VERY NICE  & not a bit spooky

NO!!!

IN fact, they were all listening to music & thinking about the colours they felt… in order to paint.. and err, it SO worked!!

Inspiration in process, bingo! (above)….and here they are ‘in action’ as they grooved and moved to the beat….and painted accordingly!

We had no idea music could be THIS inspiring (well, we did but hey!)…. so great job kids as we were totally rocking by this stage.

So it’s official… we love the combo of children, art and music! Great job everyone

Earlier this week Elsie threw a little art session for one little art student friend of ours, Fay…who came along with 11 of her school friends for a great big & fun farewell party.

The aim of this particular creative session was for each child to make their very own ‘Bangkok Memory Box’, a genius idea that Elsie came up with.

We supplied heaps of reference material (Bangkok-themed) and the children were all encouraged to design their own box, using lots of collage and huge amounts of glue…nice!

All the boxes turned out to be little beautiful mini-masterpieces on the outside and everyone really seemed to dig the idea of sticking photocopies of all of their friends safely inside each one (bless).

And as you can see, here’s the end result….beautiful little memory boxes of Bangkok for them to keep forever…. Wow kids, these boxes rock.

So then they got cake….which was REALLY good.

And at the end of the session, we had a whole little gang of very happy little people… so great job to Elsie, the kids and everyone.

To mark this very special occasion, Elsie brought in Mr. Fireman… who was (as you will see from some of these photos!) VERY sleepy, due to an extra busy and explosive work from the night before, apparently…  but we didn’t mind at ALL as he kept even stiller than usual and it’s always a pleasure to have Mr. Fireman here so we thank  HIM for also making Imani’s Birthday day extra special.
