A thief in Paris planned to steal some paintings from the Louvre.
After careful planning, he got past security, stole the paintings, and made it safely to his van.

However, he was captured only two blocks away when his van ran out of gas.

When the gendarme asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied,

“Monsieur, that is the very reason why I stole the paintings.

You see, I had no Monet

to buy Degas

to make the Van Gogh”

Soroptimists visit the Attic

In May, Elsie went to speak to the Soroptimists International on “A passion for Art”. On a random Tuesday in July, the Soroptimists came over to the studio for dinner and drinks and to enjoy a little conversation, relaxation, and figure drawing (or figure spectating in some cases). It was a fun and relaxing night for all members of the group as well as Steve, our figure model, who couldn’t wait to get up in front of his audience. Elsie did a brief demonstration and then the ladies took over.

Afterwards, there was more conversation, a little more drink, and one particularly classic moment:

A 90 year old soroptimist member & the all but nude Steve.

Comedia dell'Arte

Wikipedia says: “Comedia dell’Arte (Italian: ”the comedy of art (of improvisation)”) is a form of improvisational theatre that began in Italy in the 15th century, maintained its popularity through the 16th century, and is still performed today.Performances were unscripted…and used few props”.

You could never accuse Attic of being a boring place to paint. Not in a million years...

Um...drinking! We're really good at that!

Actually, more like some sort of strange hybrid between Scottish dancing and Jamaican Dancehall...

Since Elsie’s return, the studio has returned to it’s usual self… and I finally got a day off! ;oP

I really only had one thing I had to mention in this post…I’m sure most of you are aware that Attic doesn’t only hold classes for a mature demographic but also for hoards of children – most of whom flood the studio every Saturday. A few of whom pop over after school.

Today, I was teaching one such (8 year old) rascal and made an off-hand comment about the faces he sometimes pulls, while he’s painting. After a beat, he replied quite calmly that he was an Expressionist.

I almost fell off my seat.
