Elsie missing on FF.

Another First Friday tucked under our belt. A whole bunch of new faces and loyal regulars turned up; a great crowd. We even had an antenna hooked up so football enthusiasts didn’t miss out. We think of everything, people! Don’t underestimate the Attic.

Elsie has flown the coop. She’s in the U.K. at the moment attending her son’s graduation. She will be back in 10 days, family in tow. We missed her on First Friday. It just wasn’t the same. But the Attic gang held it together, be it with sticky tape and blue tac.

First Friday #8 – 2nd June

First Friday is upon us yet again! The months seem to be zipping by these days. What is that? Maybe I’m having too much fun…

With the curfew lifted, the fires out and the redshirts in the laundry, you have no excuse, my friends. This month the stars of the show are our students, who will be  displaying the brilliant work they have completed in the studio over the last month.

Along side our star pupils will be pieces I (being Kat) completed before my brief excursion. If you’re expecting paintings inspired by Europe, hold your horses. I’ve only been back for two weeks…I’m going to need a little more time.

Bangkok’s a Blast & Attic Studios will be a Riot!

You are cordially invited to come celebrate the return of Bangkok with our #7 First Friday – and PARTY!

This time around we’ve lined up some exciting stuff for you…

Elsie will be previewing an exhibition of newly inspired and hugely popular little oil paintings she’s being busily creating, which capture recent political events so beautifully. They form a fantastic foundation stone for her new project, Elsie’s Daily Paintings.

Also on display will be photographs of the recent war-zone in downtown Beirut, oops I mean Bangkok. Gavin has been a journalist for over 20 years and he’s familiar with serial blasts, religious riots and political strife around the world so he found Bangkok a blast… and his photographs are stunning!

First Friday #6

Our 6th monthly First Friday has come and gone. A whole range of new faces turned up for the festivities. Tracey Malone was the lucky winner of a weekend getaway for 2 at the Anantara Resort and Spa in Si Kao. And Caroline Little’s fascinators caused quite the stir. But as they say, a picture speaks a thousand words:

First Friday #5 – April

April’s First Friday was a hit. All sorts of people were in the studio enjoying stimulating conversation. Eating, drinking and being merry.

The sculpture class with Gavin proved to be extremely popular with the revelers, with 2 or 3 people sharing a single sculpture table. Coco Anantawat’s photo exhibition attracted a lot of attention and he even sold a couple of prints. Good for you Coco!

Elsie churned out a bunch of pastel caricatures – there was practically a queue.

First Friday #5 – 2nd April

It’s that time of month again. Our 5th First Friday is merely four days away! Brace yourselves for another funfilled gathering of probably the most eclectic bunch of people you’ll ever meet in one place. Painters, Sculptors, Musicians, Teachers, Photographers, Doctors, Lawyers, Film Makers, Actors and other strange and wonderful folk.

On display this month will be photos by a hip young newcomer: Thai photographer, Coco Anantawat. A resident of Bangkok, Coco loves capturing the various moods and dimensions of the city. His unique perspective allows the viewer to see everyday subjects in a different (and colourful) light. Coco enjoys being able to step out with his camera to confront whatever he comes across. Pictures can be taken on the spur-of-the-moment or with precise and lengthy planning.

First Friday #3

First Friday at Attic Studios has officially become the event of the month in Bangkok. People were spilling out onto the street!

Spanish on 4 by Tapas catered the event with delicious finger foods, while guests enjoyed live flamenco music from duo Benjamin and Jacopo as “Danca das Cabacas”. Upstairs was a hive of activity with all who were willing trying their hand at some life drawing of a nude model. Downstairs, Gavin Gough’s beautiful photographs lit up the room with their vibrant colours and pensive moods.
