First Friday…5th March 2010

Date: 5th March 2010

Time: 7pm – midnight.

“The time has come,” the Walrus said….. for the Fourth First Friday.

On show will be photographs by Jackie Rado. Jackie is a portrait photographer based in Bangkok specialising in personally commissioned portraits of families, children, babies, maternity, as well as larger groups, celebrations and weddings. Her warmth and candid portrayal of the subject is also apparent in her travel photography, capturing a variety of individuals and events around Asia and further afield. Further, as a passionate and enthusiastic coach, Jackie teaches the theory and practice of phtoography in the classroom and outside on location.

First Friday…5 Feb 2010

First Friday #2

Time: 7pm – 11pm

I know you’ve been itching for a First Friday since December last year, so you’ll be happy to hear our first F.F. of 2010 is approaching fast. As usual we’ll have food and drinks and a plethora of activity to feast your eyes on, including a bit of live music.

On display will be the ethnically vibrant photographs by Gavin Gough and various artists associated with Attic Studios.

2010!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a relaxing and fun-filled holiday. Attic is open and back in action for 2010. Classes are running as usual and we look forward to seeing you all in here as soon as possible.

A few anouncements:

  1. The Foundation Impasto Painting Course taught by artist Alan Scott-Moncrieff, will commence on 1st February to 5th February, from 10am – 4pm everyday. If you haven’t already signed up please do. Spaces are limited.

A farewell party and a great idea!

Last week, Attic hosted a farewell party for Vivian Ploem, one of the curators for the Neilson Hays Library.  12 of her friends gathered at the studio for wine and a little art, to put together something special for Vivian to take away with her.

Each lady created one page of art work from a piece of reference material/photo using paints and collage, and all the pages were bound together with a front and back cover to create a scrapbook entitiled “Farewell Vivian. A patchwork of memories from your friends in Bangkok”.

The Neilson Hays Arts Festival 09

The Neilson Hays Library brought back its Arts Festival this year and Attic Studios decided to head down there and make it’s presence known. On the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November, the Library grounds were packed full of artists and their creations, from ceramic pots, to copper sculptures, to intricate jewelry, to photography and paintings of all styles.

In our booth we showcased the paintings and drawings of Attic students, while having painting demonstrations by students, held throughout the two days. There was also an opportunity for interested kids and adults passing by to try their hand at painting one if the still lives we had set up.

Soroptimists visit the Attic

In May, Elsie went to speak to the Soroptimists International on “A passion for Art”. On a random Tuesday in July, the Soroptimists came over to the studio for dinner and drinks and to enjoy a little conversation, relaxation, and figure drawing (or figure spectating in some cases). It was a fun and relaxing night for all members of the group as well as Steve, our figure model, who couldn’t wait to get up in front of his audience. Elsie did a brief demonstration and then the ladies took over.
